PCP. "Where does the wealth created go?"

Paulo Raimundo, general secretary of the PCP, considered that while the country's economic policies do not change, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) will not grow significantly.
The communist leader was commenting on the forecasts released this Friday by the Bank of Portugal (BdP), which sharply revised downwards its estimate for the growth of the Portuguese economy this year, from 2.3% to 1.6%, in the June Economic Bulletin, published this Friday.
On the sidelines of a public session on the northeast of Trás-os-Montes, when questioned by journalists, Paulo Raimundo did not seem surprised, stating that this has been the average of the last two decades, except for “one or two years” of exceptions, such as the pandemic period, and that he believes that this will remain the case.
“(…) As long as we maintain this economic model based on low wages, brutal pressure on the majority and generous tax breaks for large companies… There is reason to be concerned about these economic growth forecasts. But while we are forecasting and not, while we are all in a tight spot, the Banks make 13 million euros in profits every day”, said the director.
For Paulo Raimundo, “something is not right here” and he asked the question: “Where is the wealth that is being created going?”
The PCP secretary general spoke in Mirandela, in the district of Bragança, where he was at the old railway station, now converted into a cultural space, in an action that was also the kick-off for the campaign for the local elections in the region, with the presence of several well-known candidates.
